Reporting Structure:

Job Purpose:

Develop and implement the strategy for our client in alignment with the overall company vision and five
strategy themes. Plan, direct, track and measure all functional activities whilst ensuring appropriate resource
allocation in all sectors. Ensure achievement of annual KPIs for the business unit with focus on Quality,
Customer Satisfaction, business performance, growth, competency development within a strict P&L context, via
team oriented and motivated workforce. Promote 1 business objectives via interbusiness unit interaction.

Key Accountabilities:

Strategy and Planning: Develop, track & measure the General Cargo short, medium and long term strategy in conjunction with the overall company strategy. Implement strategic plans by assessing industry trends and financial opportunities; presenting assumptions; recommending appropriate actions. Ensure achievement of annual KPIs of the business unit

Leadership and People Management: Direct the Business Unit in objective setting. Monitor performance of the departments through direct reports. Ensure that staffing of the Business Unit is at the most efficient and proficient level. Coach direct reports to be effective leaders and maintain an effective leadership team. Ensure that the appropriate performance management processes are applied and address escalated performance issues. Ensure that competency gaps are addressed via development opportunities and job rotation. 

BU Operational Management: Direct and oversee all of the operations and investments of the company ensuring achievement of KPIs/objectives through effective and efficient management of people, resources, financials/budgets, while meeting or exceeding customer expectations. Operate the business unit in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. 

Investment and Growth: Develop, propose and oversee approved BU investments, vessel and non-vessel as well as expanding the commercial network of General Cargo through agents, new ventures or key customers. Coordinates efforts by gathering market analysis, industry trends, partnership opportunities via coordination with relevant corporate divisions. Grow the Total Logistics business within a 3PL setting and long term 4PL capability.

Monitor Performance: Set, Monitor and evaluate operational and financial performance of all sectors within General Cargo to ensure achievement of respective profit targets and improved ROCE. Focus on cost management and operational efficiency. 

Quality Assurance and Compliance: Oversee business processes to ensure General Cargo and its agents are working according to the ISO 9001/2015 quality standards and satisfaction of customer expectations. Establish risk mitigation measures to ensure business sustainability.

Ensure HSE Compliance: Oversee implementation of the companies health, safety and environment policies and measures. Ensure compliance with regulations and standards. 

Manage Special Projects : Oversee Special Projects and ensure that the services to the customer are in compliance with contract, customer expectations and safety and confidentiality agreements. Enhance company image by collaborating with customers, government, local authorities, and global; agents whilst enforcing ethical business practices.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor degree in business management, engineering or equivalent.
  • More than 20 years of relevant experience.
