(Defense) Director of Direct Procurement - (TAX FREE expat role)

Position Overview:

The Director of Direct Procurement is responsible for implementing the supply chain strategy and overseeing the acquisition of goods and services that are essential to the company’s primary operations. This role involves strategic sourcing, supplier management, contract negotiation, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations and standards. The Director of Direct Procurement works closely with cross-functional teams to align procurement strategies with organizational goals, ensuring cost efficiency, quality, and timely delivery of materials and services.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Sourcing and Procurement:

  • Develop and implement procurement strategies for direct materials and services that align with the company’s operational and financial goals.
  • Identify and evaluate potential suppliers, conduct market analysis, and select suppliers based on quality, cost, and reliability.
  • Negotiate contracts and agreements with suppliers to secure the best terms and conditions.

Supplier Management:

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
  • Monitor supplier performance through regular assessments and audits to ensure compliance with contractual obligations and quality standards.
  • Implement supplier development programs to improve performance and drive continuous improvement.

Cost Management:

  • Develop and manage the direct procurement budget, ensuring cost-effective purchasing practices.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities through strategic sourcing, negotiation, and process improvements.
  • Track and report on cost performance against budget and implement corrective actions as needed.

Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Ensure procurement activities comply with industry regulations, company policies, and ethical standards.
  • Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies to address potential supply chain disruptions.
  • Manage procurement-related compliance with government regulations, such as ITAR and EAR.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, quality assurance, and other departments to understand their requirements and ensure timely delivery of materials and services.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to support new product development and other strategic initiatives.
  • Communicate procurement strategies, goals, and performance metrics to senior management and other stakeholders.

Team Leadership:

  • Lead and mentor a team of procurement professionals, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Provide training and development opportunities to enhance team capabilities and performance.
  • Set clear performance objectives and conduct regular performance reviews.

Technology and Innovation:

  • Leverage advanced procurement technologies and tools to enhance procurement processes and decision-making.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and innovations to drive continuous improvement and maintain a competitive edge.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in procurement within the defense industry.
  • Strong knowledge of procurement best practices, contract management, and supplier relationship management.
  • In-depth understanding of industry regulations and standards, such as ITAR and EAR.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading procurement strategies and achieving cost savings.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency in procurement software and other relevant technologies.
  • Ability to think strategically and execute operationally, balancing short-term needs with long-term objectives.
