Subject Matter Expert (SME) – Energetic Materials

Position Overview:

The Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Energetic Materials provides specialized knowledge and expertise in the development, testing, and application of energetic materials, including explosives, propellants, and pyrotechnics. This role involves advising on the safe and effective use of these materials, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and contributing to the advancement of defense technologies. The SME collaborates with cross-functional teams to enhance the performance and safety of defense systems involving energetic materials.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Expertise:

  • Provide expert guidance on the properties, behavior, and applications of various energetic materials.
  • Advise on the design, formulation, and testing of new energetic materials and systems.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure all activities involving energetic materials comply with safety regulations and industry standards, such as MIL-STD, OSHA, and ATF regulations.
  • Develop and implement safety protocols for the handling, storage, and transportation of energetic materials.

Project Support:

  •  Provide technical support to project teams during the development and production of defense systems involving energetic materials.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical documentation, including safety data sheets, test plans, and reports.

Training and Mentoring:

  • Provide training and mentorship to engineers and technical staff on the safe and effective use of energetic materials.
  • Develop and deliver technical presentations and workshops.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including chemistry, materials science, and engineering, to ensure the successful integration of energetic materials into defense systems.
  • Communicate technical information effectively to non-technical stakeholders.

Quality Assurance:

  •  Implement quality assurance processes to ensure the consistency and reliability of energetic materials.
  • Monitor production processes and conduct regular inspections to maintain high quality standards.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field; Master’s degree or Ph.D. preferred.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the development and application of energetic materials within the defense industry.

  • Strong knowledge of energetic materials, including explosives, propellants, and pyrotechnics.

  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulatory requirements, such as MIL-STD, OSHA, and ATF regulations.

  • Proven track record of successfully leading R&D initiatives in energetic materials.

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and provide leadership and mentorship.
