Material Scientist (Defence) Composites, Ceramics – (TAX FREE, EXPAT)

Position Overview:

The Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Materials provides specialized knowledge and expertise in the properties, applications, and performance of various materials used in defense systems. This role involves advising on material selection, development, testing, and integration to ensure that defense products meet the highest standards of performance, reliability, and safety. The SME collaborates with cross-functional teams to drive innovation and enhance the capabilities of defense systems through advanced materials

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Expertise: 

  • Provide expert guidance on the properties and applications of metals, composites, polymers, ceramics, and other advanced materials. 
  • Advise on material selection and compatibility for various defense applications, including aerospace, naval, and ground systems. 

Compliance and Standards: 

  • Ensure all materials and processes comply with relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements, such as MIL-STD and AS9100. 
  • Advise on best practices for maintaining compliance throughout the material lifecycle. 

Project Support: 

  • Provide technical support to project teams during the development and production of defense systems, ensuring materials meet performance and safety requirements. 
  • Assist in the preparation of technical documentation, including material specifications, test plans, and reports. 

Training and Mentoring: 

  • Provide training and mentorship to engineers and technical staff on material properties, selection, and applications. 
  • Develop and deliver technical presentations and workshops. 

Collaboration and Communication: 

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including design, manufacturing, and quality assurance, to ensure the successful integration of materials into defense systems. 
  • Communicate technical information effectively to non-technical stakeholders. 

Innovation and Problem-Solving: 

  • Drive innovation in material applications to enhance the performance and capabilities of defense systems. 
  • Solve complex material-related problems that arise during design, development, and production. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field; Master’s degree or Ph.D. preferred. 
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in materials science or engineering within the defense industry. 
  • Deep knowledge of various materials, including metals, composites, polymers, and ceramics, and their applications in defense. 
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulatory requirements, such as MIL-STD and AS9100. 
  • Proven track record of successfully leading materials research and development initiatives. 
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and provide leadership and mentorship.
